Abraham, Isaac, and the God Who Provides: Genesis 22
God’s command is almost unbearable: take your son, your only son, and offer him as a sacrifice. For three deliberate days, Abraham walks toward Moriah with Isaac at his side, trusting that the God who gave him this son against every impossibility can be trusted even now. When Isaac asks where the lamb is, Abraham answers with faith he cannot yet fully explain: “God will provide.” At the last possible moment, the angel of the Lord stops his hand, and a ram appears, caught in a thicket — a substitute, dying in Isaac’s place. This episode traces obedience that costs everything, provision that arrives exactly when needed, and a mountain that foreshadows another hill nearby, centuries later, where God would not spare His Own Son, but gave Him up as the true and final Lamb.
