Providence and Pursuit – Genesis 24
When Abraham sends his servant to find a bride for Isaac, the journey becomes one of Genesis’s most quietly profound pictures of the gospel.
The servant prays for a specific sign, and before he even finishes speaking, Rebekah appears at the well, fulfilling it precisely. Her family recognizes God’s hand in it immediately — and when asked if she will leave everything familiar to marry a man she has never seen, Rebekah answers simply: “I will go.”
She travels across the desert on the strength of a testimony alone, arriving at last to find Isaac watching for her in the field.
This episode traces the Father who sends, the servant who bears witness, and the bride who responds in faith without yet seeing — a pattern that points forward to the Spirit gathering the church, and to Christ, the Bridegroom, already watching the horizon for His people’s arrival.
